Listened to it this time. Loved the whole thing but the close was particularly elegant. Thanks for this.

On the heavy tip - been thinking a lot about transformation in the context of forest fires and pandemics. As devastating as these things are in real time, they are elemental to how nature functions and rejuvenates. There are simply times when the dead underbrush, and dysfunctional elements of a society, are kindle waiting to be transformed into nutrients for the next emerging forest.

As it relates to nature, I got a close-up view while walking through Muir Woods and other parks. It's true, but in the flash of a fire or pandemic, it feels unnatural.

Take humans out of this equation and I think you're right. This planet would be fine without us. Burning Down the House.

But since we're here, our goals are to enjoy this place as long as possible, without damaging the ground we live on. We're living longer than 45 years which is a step in the right direction.

While our goals will never align with nature, we seem to be accelerating our own demise. And nature is too happy to help.
